Time Made Visible
I build photographs over extended durations rather than a single instant. Instead of relying on the decisive moment, I accumulate many moments within a single frame, shaping them through what I choose to retain and discard. Time becomes the primary force shaping the image, revealing patterns, relationships, coincidences, and forms that cannot be perceived in any single moment.
Earlier work establishes related concerns. In Pins and Fugitives, I construct or assemble subjects before photographing them, using the logic of collage to build images that exceed the limits of a single photographic instant. These works address the same impulse through construction rather than through time.
My photographs are not objective records of elapsed time but subjective constructions, reflecting the way I experience and remember the world. Across subjects ranging from crowded playing fields and city streets to birds in flight and constructed studio arrangements, I use photography to expand what a single image can contain.
